Server Sanctions

During my time at NEM, we faced many trials and tribulations while providing services to clients. We dealt in the advertisement of 'Reseller Software' keys, which brought many interested parties to our door.

Unfortunately, not all experiences were positive. Due to copyright laws in the United States, it is not legal to provide someone with software for any key you might have.

For instance, you cannot sell a software key to a friend and supply the download for the software.

One thing that kept the business running was my ability to source servers outside of the United States, specifically in France. This enabled the company to provide software downloads legally through France, which is in Europe and has no laws concerning the copyright of used software keys.

It's important to consider this logic - what if someone sold you a car, gave you the keys, and then simply said, "Well, I'm not sure where the car is, but good luck!" This is the logic that the United States uses, but the European Union is luckily more lenient.

Internal Reorganization

The time came for interviews to "trim the fat," so to speak. Out of 48 people, I assisted in restructuring the company down to 13. As the temporary Chief Information Officer, I helped keep the company going for about six more months.

Sadly, the company closed its doors due to a loss of clients, which was no fault of the business or customers.

Through thick and thin, I continued to provide my all in keeping the company's systems online, clients and customers content, and the business running no matter what the obstacle.

The CEO invited me to a new office complex they had just signed a lease on. I remember him walking me into the barren, freshly painted office with no technical infrastructure and asking me, "We need phones, internet, and a new server base for our websites. Can you do that?" I told him yes and explained how I was going to do it.

Fast forward a couple of weeks, and I was running Ethernet cables and phone lines, setting up servers on racks, programming and linking all offices and data drives, ordering a mini-split A/C system for the server closet, and negotiating a price on a T1 fiber internet drop at our location. The CEO was sold on what I could provide him in his future endeavors.
